Weinhaus, a counselor, and Friedman, a clinical social worker, offer practical recommendations for reducing parent/child and child/child conflicts. Based upon the authors' parenting workshops, their approach is anchored in five simple rules: ``Don't use your mouth, use your routine; if you can't change the child, change the environment; follow up with follow-through; stay grounded with ground rules; (and) go for negotiation.'' The authors assert that these guidelines will help children complete tasks on time, encourage independence, build self-esteem, and reduce conflict. Numerous vignettes illustrate successful applications. However, their failure to provide an index or bibliography is a serious omission.
