Booklist Review

Gr. 6-10. Some see Ho Chi Minh as a ruthless Communist dictator; others view him as a Vietnamese patriot. In Lloyd's biography of this sometimes enigmatic leader, both viewpoints emerge at one time or another as the author traces the life of this North Vietnamese leader who single-mindedly worked to free his country from foreign control. Ho's personal life is generally ignored, but readers do get a picture of a man who was seemingly always on the move: traveling, studying abroad, or hiding to escape those who would stop his revolutionary agitating. A useful profile for students studying the Vietnam War, this is plentifully illustrated with news photos contemporary to the time. An introductory essay by Arthur M. Schlesinger, Jr., is included.
