Resumen: "Phoebe Howard is an expert at creating homes that reflect the elegance and appeal of oceanfront living. With every project, Howard is always seeking to connect interior and outdoor spaces, and to encourage alfresco entertaining. And there's nothing she loves more than a soothing color scheme of pale blues and greens set off by the neutrals inspired by shells and the sand that surrounds them. In this book, Howard shares all she has learned about combining the practical with the pretty when designing for homes on the seacoast, whether that means selecting colors or incorporating materials that stand up to the elements and sandy feet. Each house in this collection-from over-the-top contemporaries set amid the dunes to Caribbean getaways made for indoor/outdoor living-has a distinctive design that is meant not just to be lived in, but to be enjoyed by the families who call it home and by the friends and welcome guests who can't resist a visit"--

Library Journal Review

Florida-based designer Howard (The Principles of Pretty Rooms) teams up with journalist Andrew Sessa in this elegant coffee-table book featuring nine elegant river and oceanfront homes whose interiors Howard designed, one of which is her own custom-built house. The homes are in Florida, Georgia, and Antigua, and each has a unique backstory, personality, and architectural theme. Howard tailors each decorating scheme to the owners' tastes and lifestyles and ensures that her design elements don't clash with the waterfront views outside. While many people associate kitschy, color-saturated flip-flops and beach umbrellas with beachy or coastal decor, Howard ditches these signifiers and incorporates soothing blues, greens, and neutrals with carefully selected pops of pink and yellow. Howard encourages her clients and readers to DIY when necessary and to mix vintage and contemporary pieces for a layered, eclectic look. She advocates often for using durable fabrics that can withstand children, pets, food, and the elements to make cleaning and maintenance a breeze. Room-specific decorating and design tips are scattered throughout the book. VERDICT Howard's unfussy yet elegant design philosophy will inspire readers to create their own tranquil decorating style.--Aspasia Luster
