Resumen: Father Josef Jungmann's long years of service to the liturgical apostolate culminated in the production of this, his last book, treating, fittingly, of the Mass. While his previous books had dealt with the liturgical form of the Mass, this one gave him the opportunity to round out his presentation with an historical, systematic treatment of the sacred Mystery, a task which he joyfully undertook despite advancing age. The fact that the new Order of Mass of Vatican II had just been completed added to his joy–not only had contributed to this work of the Council but it would enable his book to be completely up-to-date. A brief glance at the table of contents will tell more about the extent of this work than could be written here. The reader will note the broad purview of Father Jungmann's scholarship as he moves from the Last Supper to the Mass of Post Vatican II times in its historical, theological, and pastoral aspects. All those who have profited from the author's Mass of the Roman Rite will welcome this complementary work by the scholarly liturgist who has had such a great influence on our forms and stury of worship.
