From expert testimony advice to treating HIV-positive incarcerated women, this handbook contains the most current research and tested field practices for child welfare through adulthood in the civil and criminal system.

Encompassing a wide range of treatments, roles, specialized practices, research, and diagnoses, the Handbook of Forensic Mental Health With Victims and Offenders will guide practicing professionals through the forensic social work issues they encounter on a daily basis, such as:

Prevention of prisoners' sudden deaths Expert witness testimony in child welfare and women battering Treatment of dually diagnosed adolescents The overrepresentation of African-Americans incarcerated for juvenile delinquency Jail mental health services for adults Drug courts and PTSD in inmates with substance abuse histories Recidivism prevention Basic tasks in post-trauma intervention with victims and offenders Culture and gender considerations in restorative justice

Edited by Dr. Albert R. Roberts and Dr. David W. Springer, with contributions by leaders in the field, this handbook should top the list of must-have publications for all forensic social workers.

CHOICE Review

The editors have put together a fine resource for researchers, practitioners, and college students interested in the mental health needs of victims and offenders. Though not clear from the title, this work is specifically targeted to social workers employed at the intersection of these issues. It will appeal to a wide audience. The 25 chapters cover a diverse set of topics (e.g., risk assessment, evidence mitigation, restorative justice) that are readily accessible in this straightforward handbook. Not surprisingly, the chapters vary in length, style, and readability. Each offers an extensive "Resources and Reference" section that readers will appreciate, and some offer a nice section titled "Relevant Resources for Practitioners." Works such as Social Work in Juvenile and Criminal Justice Settings, ed. by A. R. Roberts and D. W. Springer (3rd ed., 2007), cover the topic quite well, but this handbook broadens the considerations of victim-offender issues such as mediation and restorative justice, and it illuminates the research surrounding the maturing of drug courts. Summing Up: Recommended. Lower-level undergraduates through professionals/practitioners. S. W. Nicholson Michigan State University
