Since TEN Arquitectos was first published in 1998, the firm founded by Enrique Norten has soared to a position of international renown. In addition to important competition-winning proposals--the Visual and Performing Arts Library in Brooklyn and the Guggenheim Guadalajara, among others--Norten and his firm have a rich variety of projects on the drawings boards: Harlem Park, a thirty-four-story mixed-use project in Upper Manhattan; a renovation of Mexico City's Chopo Museum, the gallery of the national university; the Busan Cinema Complex in Korea; the National Laboratory of Genomics for Biodiversity in Guanajuato; and hotels and residential buildings in New York, West Hollywood, and Prague. Conceived to represent the current state of the practice, Working shows twenty unbuilt and in-progress projects with an emphasis on the design process. Sketches give way to study models and then to polished renderings; at each stage in the development of a design, numerous iterations show various directions and investigations. The collection of projects is a timely record of the works by this notable firm.

About TEN Arquitectos --
"In the two decades since its founding in Mexico City, TEN Arquitectos has soared to a position of international acclaim, Firm principal Enrique Norten is known for a robust modern style that combines elements of high-tech: a clear, at times diagrammatic expression of function; and a concern for environmental sustainability. Conceived to represent the current state of the practice, Working: 20 Projects in Process is a dynamic presentation of photographs, models, drawings, and renderings, A vital element in Norten's design process is what he calls the "jellyfish diagram"; these graphically innovative analyses of program and site are translated, more or less directly, into final building form. Representations of the works at each phase of development offer insight into the rich variety of projects on the drawing boards." "The designs shown in Working range from museums and cultural institutions to educational facilities and commercial projects. Among them are four important competition schemes: the Guggenheim Museum Guadalajara, scheduled to begin construction in 2008; the Visual and Performing Arts Library in Brooklyn, New York; the Free Library of Philadelphia in Pennsylvania; and the Busan Cinema Complex in South Korea. Numerous works shown are currently under construction, including 1 York Tribeca, a residential building in New York City; the Chopo Museum in Mexico City, the conversion of a nineteenth-century exhibition pavilion into a twenty-first century museum; and the National Laboratory of Genomics in Guanajuato, Mexico, with public and private spaces delineated by an inscribed "fault line." The James Hotel West Hollywood in California, a master plan and buildings for the College Avenue Campus of Rutgers University in New Jersey, the breathtaking glass construction of the Center for the Indigenous Arts in Mexico City, and ten other projects complete this timely record of the work of Enrique Norten and TEN Arquitectos."--Jacket
