Resumen: The original New Choices in Natural Healing is one of the bestselling health titles of all time. Now the second book in the series, specifically for women, is available in paperback. Aromatherapy, healing herbs, massage, and other drug-free, mind-body approaches to health, are making headlines in places like Ladies Home Journal, Self magazine, and on television's "Good Morning America." Now all of these alternative options are accessible in one volume. This easy-to-use reference identifies 30 practical alternative therapies alphabetically, then details how to use them for 95 conditions of concern to women, including breast pain, urinary tract infections, pregnancy, and menopause issues. With this one-stop source that helps separate alternative fact from fiction, women can make natural healing choices with confidence.

The predecessor of this book, New Choices in Natural Healing, sold three-quarters of a million copies. The same editors now introduce a book that combines the latest information on alternative healing with sound advice that is tailor-made for the specific health needs of women.

Written in consultation with Adriane Gugh-Berman, M.D., formerly of The Office of Alternative Medicine at the National Institute of Health (U.S.), and containing nearly twice the amount of information in the original, New Choices in Natural Healing for Women is an easy-to-use reference book devoted to the benefits of acupuncture, aromatherapy, healing herbs, yoga, massage, and dozens of other drug-free mind-body approaches. Other special features include: sample menus for the eight most effective healing diets, a list of the top 10 healing herbs for women, and resources and guidelines for locating and evaluating qualified practitioners.

Practical and sensitive to the health needs of today's woman, New Choices in Natural Healing for Women both meets and exceeds the appeal of its predecessor.

Includes index.

Booklist Review

This hefty alternative health guide for women by the editors of Prevention magazine is in two sections. The first gives 30 "Best Natural-Healing Therapies," with approximately 10 pages for each entry, from acupressure to yoga. Criteria for choosing just these 30 are not stated, though. The second section gives several treatment or self-help tips for 95 conditions, many of them either unique to women (PMS, morning sickness) or more frequent in women (urinary tract infection). Use of the table of contents or index will be necessary to find specific or overlapping conditions. Both sections are sprinkled with sidebars that expand on specific topics, tell how to find practitioners, or relate stories of women who have successfully used a particular therapy. Clear illustrations appear for self-treatments (acupressure, massage) and yoga positions and exercises. Although there is a wealth of information in this work, at times the cross-referencing is faulty and the format inconsistent. --Penny Spokes
