Booklist Review

Gr. 6-10. Clucas describes the life and accomplishments of Mother Teresa, from childhood to the present. Born to Albanian parents in 1910, she became a nun, moved to India, and eventually started her own order dedicated to alleviating the suffering of the poor throughout the world. Although her mission began in Calcutta, it has spread to places such as Venezuela, Australia, the Bronx, Bangledesh, the Gaza Strip, and recently, California and New York, where hospices have been opened for prisoners dying of AIDS. Clucas' straightforward account of this Nobel Prize winner is highlighted on most pages by good black-and-white photographs of the woman and the people she has served. While Clucas clearly admires Mother Teresa, she does not glorify her or omit missions that were unsuccessful. A worthwhile biography of a remarkable woman.
