Deep and Sussman combine their experience from both academia and corporate America to create a useful and fast-moving guidebook to such solutions, covering virtually any management situation that might be encountered by today's manager. The book is divided into 14 broad categories of management activity, ranging from communicating successfully to managing your boss. Each category is accompanied by checklists taken from firms such as Humana and General Electric. Serial rights have been sold to Self and Woman magazines. Deep and Sussman have developed their own MBA program: management by axiom! This collection of 1,600 rules, guidelines, saws, maxims, admonitions, tips, etc., is an extension of the authors' 1988 self-published Manager's Book of Lists. The lists are divided broadly into 14 categories such as communication, managing conflict, problem solving, and time management. A separate "action index" identifies 40 management tasks and identifies lists throughout the book that are relevant. Smart Moves offers "lite" but popular fare and its reasonable price makes it palatable. It will be serialized this summer in Self and Woman magazines. Index. --David Rouse
