CHOICE Review
In this gem of a work, the author lodges the development of work and occupations in a framework of changes in values and the historical climates embracing those values over time. Volti (Pitzer College) contends that human work is rooted in both the technological and social changes that occur as people seek to control their world. He examines sexual and age statuses within that context, as well as technological development and the alteration of personal behavior in the process. Finally, he considers the possibilities of new perspectives of work and the people who work, especially the impact of social change on women, families, and careers. The role of work and careers in the evolution of social interaction and structure commends this volume to sociologists and social scientists who seek greater understanding of social organization. They will not be disappointed. Summing Up: Highly recommended. All levels/libraries. L. Braude formerly, SUNY FredoniaNotas de autor provistas por Syndetics
