Resumen: This illustrated volume provides architects and designers with a superb source of inspiration and ideas. Exploring a wide variety of projects from around the world - from the Isle of Skye to Tokyo, it showcases how the five basic building materials - wood, stove, concrete, metal, glass - can be used in novel and exciting ways to create buildings that are not only stylish, but practical, and environmentally friendly. Building materials are those products which are permanently incorporated into the work of building and civil engineering , both materials that do not need processing, wood - and - stone as needing complex industrial processes for manufacturing, glass - concrete and metal . All materials must meet technical specifications to be accepted in construction: The strength , stability, durability, safety in case of fire , hygiene , health, safety in use, protection against noise , energy saving and thermal insulation . Knowledge of these plus their properties are necessary to know which to use in each building , meaning the response property that the material suffers from external stimuli. We show in this book constructions with some of the five main materials of wood , stone, concrete, metal and glass, with special prominence to create a home to suit the owners.
