CHOICE Review

Frank Netter's medical illustrations, noted for their clarity and detail, have been a standard since the mid-20th century. The fifth edition of the Atlas of Human Anatomy (4th ed., 2006) includes important revisions made by a board of experienced anatomy educators. Limb orientations have been modified to better reflect common clinical imaging, and plates have been reordered so that they reflect changes in the way anatomy is being taught. Netter's images have been supplemented with images created by physician/ illustrator Carlos A. G. Machado. Over 530 color plates and a detailed index are included. This volume is, as its title suggests, an anatomical atlas. It does not include additional instructional materials, and it does not link normal or abnormal anatomy to clinical findings. Netter's Clinical Anatomy, edited by J. T. Hansen (2nd ed., CH, Jun'10, 47-5684), and K. L. Moore, A. F. Dalley, and A. Agur's Clinically Oriented Anatomy (6th ed., 2010) make those connections. This book includes a code for online anatomy resources; however, the code is for use by one person only and cannot be used by libraries. Site licenses are available for either viewing or viewing/downloading options; contact Elsevier for licensing costs. Summing Up: Recommended. Upper-level undergraduates and graduate students in advanced anatomy courses. J. M. Miller University of Toledo
