Innovative residential types
To continue to develop existingbuilding types and do so in an intelligent way is one of the crucialtasks in the field of residential building. For the success of theindividual design as well as for ensuring that tried and testedstructures can be utilized, repeated, and varied in a wide range ofsituations, a deeper understanding of the underlying types isindispensable.
For this typology of residential buildings, theauthors have developed systematic new presentations of the mostinnovative types. Each individual volume lays out the possibilities forusing and transforming a particular form of residential structure.
Thethird volume deals with the types of the townhouse. It will address thefollowing topics among others: single- versus multistory construction, density, privacy versus publicity, and the connection of living andworking.
Within each type, variants are distinguished according tohow they organize space, their number of floors, etc. The range ofpossible solutions is presented in uniform ground plans newly drawn toscale.

"This book provides a systematic overview of the different types of town houses. A central task in the field of residential architecture is to work with existing housing types and to continue to develop them in intelligent ways. Essential for the success of a design is a profound understanding of the general type of building that the design takes as its basis. Understanding the building type is indispensable as it ensures that tested structures can be widely utilised, repeated, and varied." "The authors of this volume have developed new, systematic representations of the most innovative types of town houses. After a discussion of the town house as a central component of inner cities, the authors present the catalogue of town house types arranged according to urban constellation row, twin-row, block perimeter and infill sites. The broad spectrum of solutions are presented in a uniform manner using newly drawn scale drawings of floor plans, sections and schematic diagrams."
