Library Journal Review

For both those new to academic library jobs and librarians who are seasoned professionals, this book provides practical and specific advice from the job search to resumeand cover letter writing, telephone and in-person interviews, negotiating (e.g., salary), and more. Each chapter is authored by one or two present or former New Mexico State University librarians, with many chapters coauthored by editor Neely (director of access svcs., Univ. of New Mexico Libs.). All advice is based on real experiences, from interpreting a job posting to indicating your interpretation in the application to preparing for the interview process through research and practice. VERDICT The index makes the material easily retrievable again, while an overall approach among the authors leads the reader from start to finish. A welcome addition to any career or library school collection. While much is geared specifically to the academic librarian, other parts, such as reading the job ad or the interview process, will benefit anyone in need of advice on job seeking at any level of the career ladder.-Sara Rofofsky Marcus, Queens Coll. Booklist Review

Written for the job seeker, whether new to academia or seasoned, this book provides practical and specific advice for finding and landing an academic library job. Following chapters that describe the academic search process and present the results of an analysis of ads for entry-level jobs, chapters provide step-by-step guidance on how to read an ad, put together an application packet, interview over the phone and in person, negotiate terms, and more. Authored by librarians who are currently, or have been, at the University of New Mexico, the advice is based on real experiences and can help those not only in librarianship but in any field. An index makes the material easily findable. This book is a welcome addition to any career collection and for any library school collection as well.--Marcus, Sar. Copyright 2010 Booklist
