Joseph John Nicolosi was born on January 24, 1947. He received a master's degree from the New School for Social Research in Manhattan and a doctorate from the California School of Professional Psychology in Los Angeles. He founded the Thomas Aquinas Psychological Clinic in Encino, California in 1980 and co-founded the National Association for Research and Therapy of Homosexuality 12 years later. He was a clinical psychologist who believed conversion therapy could diminish people's same-sex attraction. He maintained that people were naturally heterosexual but that childhood trauma, possibly intensified by a domineering mother and a detached father, might lead to homosexuality. He was the author or co-author of several books including Healing Homosexuality and A Parent's Guide to Preventing Homosexuality. He died from complications of the flu on March 8, 2017 at the age of 70.(Bowker Author Biography)
