Descripciones mejoradas de Syndetics:

Dr. Meyer has gathered a distinguished group of academicians and clinicians who provide a comprehensive review of all the complex relationships between substance abuse and psychopathology. The recent escalation of research on the role of personality and psychopathology on addictive disorders and the understanding of the etiology, diagnosis, and treatment that the research has produced has been brought together in this timely contribution. PSYCHOPATHOLOGY AND ADDICTIVE DISORDERS is a landmark text in an area of increasing importance. It should be read by anyone who is interested in any aspect of the study or treatment of individuals with alcohol or drug problems.

Includes bibliographies and index.

CHOICE Review

This is an interesting book dealing with a topic (addictive disorders) currently receiving some attention. The chapters focus on alcohol and other drug dependence with some thoughtful chapters on treatment and diagnosis. Basically, the focus is on trying to weave psychopathology and addictive problems into a comprehensible unit. The editor is aware of the circularity of psychopathology and addictive problems (one increases the other), and he does an adequate job of making sense of this complex issue. There are other books on addictive behavior but they are specific to the topics of drug, alcohol, or sexual inclination; however, Psychopathology and Addictive Disorders presents a broad coverage of the field. The book should be of some interest to the general public and undergraduate students. It is likely to be of little interest to the specialists, since it summarizes well but adds little new information.-R.J. Howell, Brigham Young University
