CHOICE Review

The title says it all. This list of "self-help" law books for nonspecialists updates Frank Houdek's Law for the Layman: An Annotated Bibliography of Self-Help Law Books (1991), originally published in looseleaf format. This second edition presents materials published from 1990 through March 1, 1996. The bibliography has two sections, "General/Comprehensive Works" and "Subject Specific Works." Subjects run the gamut, "AIDS" to "Workers' Compensation." Entries in each subsection are listed alphabetically by author and are flagged as either general or state entries. Nearly 100 subjects are listed in the table of contents, where asterisks indicate which subjects contain state entries. There are indexes by author, title, and state jurisdiction, and the "List of Publishers" gives addresses and telephone numbers. Highly recommended for public library self-help collections. L. H.
