Descripciones mejoradas de Syndetics:
To succeed as searchers, all librarians require both a basic idea of how databases are put together, and a repository of concepts and techniques to draw upon. With such essentials well in hand, the searcher can plunge into almost any database that comes along and master its intricacies (and idiosyncrasies) in relatively short order. Bell's conversational style, coupled with her Searcher's Toolbox, promises increased flexibility and adaptability. Booklist Review
In the new edition of a guide intended for use both in and outside the library science classroom, Bell instructs readers on subscription databases offered in libraries, especially resources such as PsycINFO and Web of Science that are used in academe. Chapters 1 through 3 detail database structure and the tools in the searcher's toolkit (for example, truncation). Chapters 4 through 8 highlight key features and important search techniques for top databases from different disciplines; for example, chapter 4, Social Science Databases, discusses using the thesaurus in ERIC. Chapters 9 through 12 outline the information-seeking process and database evaluation, selection, and instruction. Most major database vendors are covered. Screenshots have been updated, are abundant, and clarify points made in the text. Added material includes information on WorldCat.org as well as many new, up-to-date references. If you have the 2006 version, get this new edition.--Fadel, Stephen Copyright 2009 BooklistNotas de autor provistas por Syndetics
