CHOICE Review

From accounting, finance, production, and marketing to engineering, human resources, and logistics, this book's coverage encompasses a wide variety of business functions. This revision to the previous edition (CH, Jul'07, 44-6319) is enhanced with some 20 additional formulas and ratios. New items include the fixed-charge coverage ratio, free cash flow formula, capital-labor ratio, cash coverage ratio, value at risk formula, cash conversion efficiency metric, and the open/close requisition ratio. The final chapter focuses on the use of spreadsheet templates to compile information about long-term performance emphasizing five types of analyses: the financial statement, project analyses, investment analysis, risk analysis, and trend analysis. As in earlier editions, each chapter begins with a short introduction and an overview of what is covered along with the formulas and ratios that are reviewed. For each formula or ratio, Bragg, author of numerous accounting titles, including The Ultimate Accountants' Reference (CH, Aug'07, 44-6923), provides a succinct, practical explanation; a concise understandable example; and a caveat or caution about its use and interpretation. An appendix contains a complete list of the formulas and ratios. A brief glossary completes the book. Oriented toward business professionals, the book requires familiarity with managerial decision models. Summing Up: Recommended. Business collections, upper-division undergraduates through professionals. S. R. Kahn University of Cincinnati
