CHOICE Review
This second edition, by Fazio (emer., Mississippi State) and Moffett and Wodehouse (both deceased), corrects a blatant imbalance in the coverage of the first (CH, Jan'04, 41-2670) pertaining to architecture since 1950. While the first edition concentrated almost exclusively on American architecture in this period, climaxing in the dramatic work of Frank Gehry, this second edition more judiciously expands coverage to five continents, ending appropriately enough with the newest architectural designs in China. Each chapter contains capsule chronologies, introductions, and conclusions; two new sections add more depth to the coverage of African and Andean architecture. An online learning center is now linked to the text, and location arrows in site plans, a feature taken from the world of computers, provide extremely useful orientation for the photographs. All these changes are contained within the exact same number of pages as the first edition. Summing Up: Recommended. Lower- and upper-level undergraduates; general readers. P.
