Publishers Weekly Review

K-Gr 4-Like the rest in the series, this volume tells the same story twice, first in Spanish and then in English, with the same illustrations in each telling. In this title, the young prince is bored with his royal role and dreams of being a professional dancer, an opera singer, a painter, a sailor, and a traveler visiting Micronesia. When a circus comes to town he hangs up his crown, kisses his mother goodbye, shakes his father's hand, and joins the circus as a juggler. The boy fulfills some of his dreams and has a few adventures, but when he realizes that he misses his family, his food, and his bed, he rejoins his parents and resumes his role as prince with renewed energy. Bright, bold, colorful acrylic illustrations fill the spreads. Exaggerated features, bold lines, and sharply descending elongated noses give a Picasso flair to the artwork. The translation is clear, although a minor word was omitted in error in the English portion of the text. The suggested activities section will be useful in classrooms. Recommended for school and public libraries, as well as bookstores.Cristi Jenkins, Access & Programs, Fort Vancouver Regional Library, WA (c) Copyright PWxyz, LLC.
