"Christian hope is a gift, an undeserved gift of peace, but it is also a call to decision, to a total life of decision. Christian hope means then, that in Christ, by entrusting ourselves to him, we can courageously face evil, accept our own need of further conversion, the lovelessness of others and all the investment of sin in the world around us and in our own heritage. We can face death just as we can face the mammoth task before us which, as St. Paul explains, is putting 'to death our selfish desires.' For this to become possible we need to entrust ourselves to Christ. We must be determined to take on the sentiments of Christ, his own outlook, the whole way he paved for us in selfless concern for others."
