Publishers Weekly Review
Gr 5-YA-Based on the popular novel Left Behind, part four of five of the series shows the world suddenly enveloped in chaos. In the midst of the chaos, an unknown talking head emerges. Nicolás Carpatia, the new Romanian president, addresses the United Nations assembly, pledging to restore order before the madness drags desperate nations into a third world war. Camilo Williams, a respected journalist, is suspicious and tries to get closer to the man who is suddenly charming the masses. The story also follows the life of an airline pilot, Raimundo Steele, and his reaction to the unexplained disappearance of his wife. He looks to faith and begins to see signs of the end as doubt and uncertainty continue to surround the globe. This edition has plenty of suspense, ending with a cliffhanger that leads to the final issue. Strong characterization brings the drama to life as events taking place simultaneously around the world hold the reader's attention. The language is easy to understand, in part thanks to a quality translation. Bookstores should display this attractive selection prominently.--Paul M.
