CHOICE Review
Organized in easy-to-read question and answer format, this book's first five chapters cover history, governors, legislatures, courts, and campaigns and elections. Chapter 6, "State of the States," offers statistical comparisons on many socioeconomic topics. Sources are given at the end of each table. The last chapter, "State Profiles," gives Web address, basic statistics, and facts about each state. Each chapter ends with a "Where Can I find . . ." section, which leads to other print sources for more information. Useful features include the detailed subject index and numerous cross-references found among the questions and answers. The standard Book of the States, the obvious rival to this new work, excels in the area of comparative tables, covering topics like state gaming, minimum age, and state purchasing practices, areas Wetterau does not address. The strength of his work is the question and answer section, which serves as a political science encyclopedia, often highlighting little-known facts. Recommended especially for general readers and undergraduates. M. Strange; University of Wisconsin--LaCrosseBooklist Review
These volumes have the same handy question-and-answer format as Congressional Quarterly's Desk Reference on American Government (1997) and Congressional Quarterly's Desk Reference on the Federal Budget [RBB Jl 98].Notas de autor provistas por Syndetics
