CHOICE Review
This annual drug guide by Karch (Univ. of Rochester) provides detailed descriptions and administration guidelines for nearly all major prescription drugs. Each drug entry contains a phonetic pronunciation, pregnancy category, trade name, drug classification, indications, contraindications, available forms, dosages, adverse effects, side effects, and interactions. Nursing considerations, which are extensive, include overdose treatment, teaching points, safety warnings, pertinent assessments, and evaluation of client responses. Intravenous medication highlights appear where appropriate and include Y-site compatibility information. Multiple clinical alerts occur throughout the drug entries to call attention to drug administration safety issues. All drug entries occur in alphabetical order by generic name for quick access. This reference guide includes sections on nursing process, error prevention, and pharmacological classes. Information on major topics of interest appears in 25 appendixes that cover dialyzable drugs, treatment for biological/chemical agents, drugs that interact with grapefruit juice, and more. Another feature is a quick access "photoguide" that includes full-size color pictures of common medications. Also included is a companion CD of drug information and teaching aids for 200 commonly used drugs. This handbook is an excellent clinical resource for the student or practicing nurse responsible for administering medications. Summing Up: Recommended. Lower-level undergraduates through professionals/practitioners; two-year technical program students. M. A. Volino Elmira CollegeNotas de autor provistas por Syndetics
