Descripciones mejoradas de Syndetics:

If you use statistics and need a useful, up-to-date reliable sourcebook that provides simple definitions and explanations of statistical and statistics-related concepts, then look no further than this dictionary. Some 3500 terms are defined, a considerable increase over the first edition. They cover medical, survey, theoretical, applied statistics, etc. In addition, short biographies of over 100 important statisticians are included. The majority of definitions include a reference to a book or article where the user can seek an extended account of a term if required, and many are accompanied by graphical material to aid understanding.

Includes bibliographical references (p. ix).

Library Journal Review

An update to the 2005 edition, this field-specific dictionary explains nearly 4000 terms, concepts, and models relevant to fields employing theoretical, applied, scientific, and survey-related probability methods. Everitt (coauthor, A Dictionary of Statistics for Psychologists) and Skrondal (Multi-Level Modeling) incorporate both computational and graphic considerations while profiling in paragraph-long biographies the field's 100 most significant statisticians. Entries are alphabetized by name and include equations, illustrations, cross-references, and source titles. A thoroughgoing update to Graham Upton and Ian Cook's cost-effective paperback Oxford Dictionary of Statistics, which, although straightforward enough for the novice, contains only half the entries of Everitt and Skrondal's book. CHOICE Review

Although its cover nearly duplicates that of the third edition (2006; 2nd ed., CH, Mar'03, 40-3759; 1st ed., CH, Feb'99, 36-3096), this book is fresh with updated content and additional pages. Everitt (King's College London), a strong statistician with some 50 books in publication, has once again devoted his talents and expertise to updating this dictionary. What makes the fourth edition stand out from previous ones is the addition of Skrondal (Univ. of Oslo, Norway) as coauthor. Skrondal, an expert in multilevel and longitudinal modeling, is well published in biostatistics. These two great minds offer a book with nearly 4,000 statistical terms and 100-plus updated biographical entries. Entries vary in length from one-line descriptions to detailed full-page explanations. Within this volume's easy alphabetical arrangement readers will find new entries about Bayesian statistics, along with information about causality and machine learning. Entries offer acronyms, see also notes, formulas, and figures. Some diagrams have been overhauled from the previous edition. Citations at the end of most entries offer documentation and references to additional sources. Cambridge deserves commendation for offering an updated edition consistently every four years. Summing Up: Highly recommended. Upper-level undergraduates through professionals/practitioners. K. L. Swetland University of South Carolina Upstate

Booklist Review

New edition of a title first published in 1998 and designed for "students of statistics, working statisticians and researchers in many disciplines who are users of statistics." The more than 3,000 entries, most of them quite brief, include approximately 100 biographies.
