Descripciones mejoradas de Syndetics:

Drawing on the most prominent research in the field, this timely book offers bold new fiscal policies that can complement current automatic stabilizers and counter-cyclical monetary policy to help combat recessions. Dr. Seidman argues for an independent fiscal policy board or the Federal Reserve to decide changes in the magnitude of Congress's fiscal policy package of stimulus or restraint, with recommendations going into effect immediately, subject only to Congressional override.

CHOICE Review

Economist Seidman (Univ. of Delaware) wants to awaken fiscal policy from its 30-year hibernation. Congress has recently revived its use of countercyclical fiscal policy, and Seidman wants economists and the public to awaken also. He proposes a formula approach to reverse economic decline--automatic tax rebates and cuts in general consumption taxes when decline in national output reaches a specified magnitude--and a federal fiscal policy advisory board to assist Congress in designing emergency fiscal policy in a severe recession. The book contains three main sections. The first outlines his proposal for these purpose-built automatic stabilizers (the current stabilizers are collateral effects of other policy tools). The second provides support and additional background for his proposals. The third deals with the criticisms that have been made against countercyclical fiscal policy, amounting to a review and critique of the new classical counterrevolution in macroeconomics. Even if one does not accept his new stabilizer proposals, Seidman provides a thorough review of the arguments on fiscal stabilization, from Keynes to today, and offers a good starting point for discussing the role and implementation of stabilization policy. ^BSumming Up: Recommended.
