Library Journal Review

It's hard enough to keep abreast of all the rule changes in AACR2 and MARC coding for books, but many of us also catalog multiple formats. Fritz, founder and co-owner of The MARC of Quality, a Florida company that provides training, software, and database services to help librarians create better MARC records, has updated her original 1998 edition to reflect current modifications to major roles and coding standards. Well organized and easy to follow, the text indicates major changes by the addition of the year in which they were made. Also, Fritz plans to provide updated pages every one to two years until AACR3 is established. There is also a section for beginners, which discusses general cataloging steps and searching for cat records and includes the "Editing/Cloning/Creating Records Cheatsheet" for making original records. Although it does not present every rule or MARC tag, this fairly comprehensive and handy reference addresses all levels of cataloging expertise. Catalogers and instructors should add this to their collection.-Susan Ketcham, Long Island Univ.-Southampton Coll. Lib., NY (c) Copyright 2010.
