Descripciones mejoradas de Syndetics:

Our climate is now changing at a rapid rate, and even greater climate change is very likely in the 21st century. Temperatures are projected to rise more rapidly in the next one hundred years than in the last 10, 000 years. This Assessment has involved thousands of Americans in an ongoing national dialogue about climate change and its impacts. The report identifies key climatic vulnerabilities of particular regions and sectors in the context of other changes in the nation's environment, resources, and economy. It also explores ways Americans can adapt to an uncertain and continuously changing climate.

CHOICE Review

An overview report by this same title was previously published (CH, Jul'01). This expanded version provides an excellent summary of findings before the first chapter. The black-and-white figures in the text are displayed more advantageously in the 69-page color appendix. (Unfortunately, the color version of figure 1 in chapter 2 is incorrect.) The report presents historical data, results from general circulation models and sensitivity analysis, and vulnerability of particular regions, societal activities, and ecosystems regarding expected climatic change. The report focuses on adaptation but excludes mitigation measures. Although some scenarios predict similar outcomes, the report indicates a large likelihood of potential surprises and acknowledges that the impacts of climate change on health, income, and employment are not fully understood. The report includes 21st-century changes in vegetation distribution but does not consider impacts on animal communities. Suitable for general readers, researchers and faculty, and professionals. A.
