Descripciones mejoradas de Syndetics:

This book is designed to be a primary text for courses in aviation history and development and aviation in America.

The seventeen chapters in The American Aviation Experience: A History range chronologically from ancient times through the Wright brothers through both world wars, culminating with the development of the U.S. space program. Contributors also cover balloons and dirigibles, African American pioneers in aviation, and women in aviation. These essayists--leading scholars in the field--present the history of aviation mainly from an American perspective.

The American Aviation Experience includes 335 black-and-white photographs, two maps, and an appendix, "Leonardo da Vinci and the Science of Flight." An on-line test guide is available for instructors.

Includes bibliographical references and index.

CHOICE Review

Editor Brady (dean, School of Aviation, Embry-Riddle Aeronautical Univ., Daytona Beach, Florida), a former aviator, teaches at a university dedicated to education for professional aviation careers. The other 11 contributors have similar backgrounds as professional aviation educators. The first nine chapters are chronological and cover developments through WW II; seven subsequent chapters focus on topical themes such as balloons and dirigibles, government in aviation, military airpower developments, and other subjects. A chapter on women and another on African Americans in aviation represent the book's strong points, with interesting research and use of illustrations. Throughout, the book exudes a didactic tone that is consistent with a text constructed for aspiring aviation professionals. Because of its organization and episodic arrangement, most traditional academic libraries will find this publication less important to their collections than it would be to instructors in aviation education. Lower-division undergraduates; two-year technical program students. R. E. Bilstein emeritus, University of Houston--Clear Lake
