CHOICE Review

In essence, Job Analysis covers a variety of activities directed toward discovering, understanding, and describing what people do at work. Written by two psychology professors (Univ. of South Florida, Tampa), this well-written book will primarily interest students, scholars, and human resource professionals involved in applications such as personnel selection, training, and compensation. The book is divided into ten chapters, each of which contains both an overview and chapter summary. Chapter 1 introduces readers to the nature and uses of job analysis, and chapters 2 through 5 describe the most important techniques of job analysis currently in use. Chapters 6 through 9 discuss the legal context, describe various applications of job analysis, and cover techniques for doing a job analysis study. The authors conclude the work with a discussion of the future of job analysis. The book is well referenced and includes a glossary of terms. Informative and comprehensive in coverage, this volume is recommended for upper-division undergraduate through professional collections. T. Gutteridge University of Connecticut
