Descripciones mejoradas de Syndetics:

Retains the easy-to-read format and informal flavor of the previous editions, and includes new material on the symmetric properties of extended arrays (crystals), projection operators, LCAO molecular orbitals, and electron counting rules. Also contains many new exercises and illustrations.

CHOICE Review

As the first book on this subject, Cotton's Chemical Applications of Group Theory (1963) set the standard for the presentation of this subject to chemists. In the 19 years since the second edition of this classic was published (CH, Oct'71), it has remained the book on this topic--this latest edition continues this tradition. It is very similar to the previous edition but with several notable improvements: the presentation of the headings, subheadings, tables, figures and captions is exceptional, as is the general layout. Nearly all the end-of-chapter problems are new or completely redone. In many places the material has been rewritten, with great improvement in the clarity of presentation. The major change in this edition is a completely new chapter on crystallographic symmetry, covering more than 60 pages. This extends the scope of the coverage from individual molecules and their orbitals to 2- and 3-dimensional networks. As in the previous editions, there are several useful appendixes, including a removable pamphlet (inserted in an envelope attached to the inside back cover) that contains the character tables needed for solving the problems. Highly recommended for all libraries serving the needs of undergraduate and graduate chemistry majors and professionals. -R. Rudman, Adelphi University
