Don't let Internet's pedestrian looks fool you; what it lacks in color it makes up in breadth of coverage and ease of use. Intended for Internet users of all abilities, Internet ranges from easy-to-understand explanations (e-mail, attached files, how to use search engines effectively, Internet relay chat--IRC), to more technical topics (newsgroups, electronic wallets, video conferencing, how to analyze Web site traffic). Basic instructions for using the major Web authoring tools (Microsoft FrontPage, Netscape Composer, and Adobe PageMill) are included, along with an explanation of basic HTML tags. Especially helpful are the instructions for configuring Netscape Navigator and Internet Explorer, since the online help they offer can be frustrating. Screen shots of the software programs are included where applicable. Special advice is highlighted in each chapter under the headings "tips," "notes," and "cautions"--for example, you are warned that in Microsoft Outlook Express, deleting an e-mail with an attached file also deletes the file.
