In a volume in the Encyclopedia of Health series, a well-known medical writer discusses the sadness and human cost of Alzheimer's as well as the scientific research, possible causes, diagnosis, and treatment of the disease. He combines personal case histories with statistics and objective data, and also looks at the financial and legal issues and the burden of long- term care for patients. Illustrated with numerous photographs (not all relevant) and clear scientific diagrams, this has sparse documentation, but it includes a glossary, long bibliography, appendix of organizations to contact, and index, and the same two general introductions that pad each volume in the series.
