But, given that caveat, Royal College of Art (London) professor Hedgecoe's guide veers as close as possible to a hands-on laboratory for budding videomakers. Not just a buying guide, this manual zooms in on practical techniques intended to produce better home movies: pans and tilts, point of view, lighting, special effects, and editing, among many other topics. Each chapter is short and filled with more visual examples than words.
