In 1942 Jenny Fields, a young Bostonian from a good family, leaves the safety of her home to live her life. She soon has a son who she calls Garp. Together they find their way in a world of hypocrisy, inhibitions and violence, with only their energy as a weapon. Jenny and Garp manage to draw their own universe surrounded by the unavoidable hostility behind which lurks the shadow of the Under Toad.
