CHOICE Review

Aimed at a professional audience, this collection provides important perspectives and illustrates a variety of work-family relationships. The authors are knowledgeable experts about their subjects. In addition to a summary introduction, the collection contains chapters on job stress and health, dual careers, home-based work, some special problems of family businesses, research, a career-span study of the work-family crossroads, and business effects. These chapters address work-family issues in the US; two chapters deal with Israel and the UK. The most informative essays are "Work and Family Issues: A Legitimate Business Concern," "Work and Family Crossroads Spanning the Career," and "The Family That Works Together: Special Problems of Family Businesses." These essays, like the others in this volume, contain excellent bibliographies. Professional consultants, human resource managers, business owners, and graduate students of corporate life will find this collection not only necessary reading but also an indispensable addition to their reference libraries.
