CHOICE Review

An expanded edition of Gerhart's Quote It! (1969) and Quote It II (1988), this collection draws on diverse sources such as the Code of Hammurabi, the Bible, numerous literary works, legal decisions, and lectures and speeches, but it is not a book of quotations in the standard sense. Many of the quoted passages are lengthy paragraphs rather than the brief one- or two-line quips one finds in typical quotation sources. The arrangement is alphabetical by subject, with plentiful see and see also references. Name and word indexes conclude the work. The word index would work better if the quotations on each page had been numbered so they could be more easily found. An outstanding feature is that a complete source reference follows each quotation. For graduate and professional collections. P. S. Thomas Central Michigan University
