Descripciones mejoradas de Syndetics:

Empathy - the sense of being in feeling with another - has long been acknowledged as an important part of the therapist-patient bond. But with the advent of managed-care approaches, short-term psychotherapy, and the growing popularity of manualized approaches, empathy has started to take on a diminished role seen as a useful but not vital element in therapy, good to have but not necessary for the therapy's success.

CHOICE Review

This book is an interesting collection of articles on the concept of empathy. Although empathy is a central concept in psychotherapy and often is considered a key element in the formation of a working therapeutic relationship, little work in the field has concentrated on this concept. Empathy Reconsidered is particularly useful since it cuts across person-centered, experienced, and psychoanalytic viewpoints on empathy. Several authors not only explore Carl Rogers's evolving concept of empathy but also offer Kohut's view of empathy as a necessary part of effective psychoanalysis. All in all, an important book, easily read, and a necessary acquisition for libraries. Upper-division undergraduate and graduate students; faculty; professionals. M. W. York; University of New Haven
