CHOICE Review

In a single albeit expensive volume, this work provides a wide range of information on interpersonal relationships. The essays on theory and contemporary research predominate; less attention is devoted to intervention. The editor has not attempted to include a historical review in addition to analysis of current work. Duck sees personal relationships as a field of study largely staffed by psychologists, social psychologists, and sociologists. With this as a key theme, the editor has compiled a collection of uniformly sound and informative material, and has organized this material under a series of arbitrarily selected subtopics. There are gaps, of course, as is to be expected in any handbook. The indexes are extensive and the bibliography is excellent. Upper-division undergraduates and above. -F. J.
