Gr 9 Up-- Collected speeches, editorials, and periodical articles give an array of opinions and information about these widely discussed topics. Health Care is examined in 26 selections excerpted from a variety of sources. They are divided into five broad areas: an overview, medical care and social justice, health care options, rationing care, and global perspectives. Health care as a human right, greed and the pharmaceutical industry, the corrupted medical system, and the responsibility of employers are among the other subjects explored. Population includes 22 entries, beginning with an overview, and gives pro and con stances on the food supply, social justice, and the environment as they related to population issues. In both volumes, opinions vary widely and are well supported. Reasoning-skill activities are included after each section. Editorial cartoons assist students in their analyses.Credentials of the authors or speakers and original sources of the articlesare given.
