Booklist Review
Gr. 5-8. Full-page color photos and maps add eye-catching interest to this timely work, which is part of the Headliners series. Ricciutti describes the deep-seated ethnic rivalries that, after the death of Tito, led to the breakup of the country. He examines the current wars in Croatia and Bosnia and touches on the effects of the conflict on ordinary citizens. A discussion of UN sanctions, ethnic cleansing, and airlifts brings the reader to December 1992. A chronology, boldfaced subheadings, and one-sentence summaries of chapters make this brief book, which conveys the full drama of the tense situation in the troubled area, a source of easy-to-find, quick information. ~--Susan DeRonneNotas de autor provistas por Syndetics
