School Library Journal Review

Gr 4-8‘These titles cover a variety of jobs in specific career areas. Some professions require college degrees and others have non-college requirements for licensing. Individual chapters include probing questions that readers can use for self-assessment, e.g., "Do you have a lot of patience with people, or do you get frustrated with them easily?" or "How important is earning a high salary to you?" Vocabulary and sentence structure are simple and straightforward. Each book concludes with a chapter on getting a job and addresses to write to for further information. Animal Care explains what to include in a resume and how to prepare for an interview; Cosmetology describes apprenticeship programs. Clear photos in both black-and-white and color enhance the texts. Written for younger readers than the "Career Portraits" (VGM) or "Career Connections" (UXL) series, these titles are useful additions.‘Blair Christolon, Prince William Library, Manassas, VA (c) Copyright 2010.
