School Library Journal Review
Gr 7 Up-A concise, balanced, and current sourcebook for research on drug abuse in this country. The book would be especially useful combined with Drug Abuse (Greenhaven, 1988), as it provides thorough book and nonprint bibliographies; includes short biographies of important figures in the war on drugs (Mother Hale of Hale House; Bill W., the founder of Alcoholics Anonymous; and Timothy Leary, for example); as well as some primary documents (presidential speeches on drugs and the drug policies of major sports organizations). The ``Opposing Viewpoints'' source has periodical bibliographies, a thorough discussion of the issues, and more guidance in doing research. Both titles have lists of useful organizations to contact. Drug Abuse in Society also offers a thorough statistical section that is well illustrated with charts, graphs, and tables.-Sarah Hayne Fitzsimmons, New York Public Library (c) Copyright 2010.
