CHOICE Review

A publication sponsored by the American Association of College Teacher Education. The authors are primarily college and university administrators in teacher education programs or are associates in professional organizations involved with teacher education. Reforming teacher education is, and has been, a popular topic for discussion by educators. This book focuses on the wrongs of the present system and the desirability of considering cultural diversity as the focus of reform. Rather than designing programs to improve the schools, the various authors discuss why changes MUST be made. They acknowledge the dearth of research and literature available in past reformation efforts. Their premise is that the US will become a second-class nation if schools are not revised along the lines of cultural diversity. Condemnation of present practices is emphasized, and there is the belief that transformation of the schools would eliminate racism, sexism, ageism, and most other kinds of discrimination.
