CHOICE Review

The authors' survey of rapidly developing case law on sexual harassment in employment was suggested by Lindemann's earlier Employment Discrimination Law (1976- ). In traditional casebook format, summary and analysis of the law are integrated with major court decisions. Ostensibly, the intended audience is legal practitioners, but the book has wider appeal. A strength of the volume is the effort to connect sexual harassment law with other areas of the law. Coverage is thorough, although initial theoretical sections might have been improved by incorporating brief excerpts of essays and analyses of leading scholars such as Catharine MacKinnon. Two forewords by federal judges treat broader theoretical issues, but the viewpoints expressed are distinctly male, suggesting the need for balance. Although this book will be a valuable addition to both law libraries and libraries serving upper-division undergraduate and graduate students, its fifth and final section considers special litigation issues and is of sole or primary interest to practitioners and legal scholars. Extremely helpful appendixes include Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) Guidelines, appropriate sections of the EEOC Compliance Manual, an essay on sexual harassment law in Canada, and a sample antiharassment policy for employers.
