Descripciones mejoradas de Syndetics:

The works selected for inclusion in this bibliography have remained among the most read and studied in undergraduate classes on the novel or on Victorian literature. The bibliography is arranged alphabetically by author and title. For each author, a general bibliography is included. The citations provide references to readily accessible works that discuss the author's life and achievements, often providing comparisons with contemporaries or with novelists of other periods. After each title, a number of citations point the student to books or chapters in books providing a detailed discussion of the individual works by the ever popular Victorian novelists.

Includes bibliographical references (p. 4-8).

CHOICE Review

Mazzeno (dean of humanities, Mesa State College, Colorado) takes a pragmatic approach in this bibliography focused on 13 Victorian novelists. He includes critical works easily accessible to lower-division and community college students both in intellectual level and by probable wide ownership. Entries are arranged by author; a "general" section is followed by citations to specific novels. Chapters from works named in the general sections are also cited repeatedly under individual novels. Annotations are straightforward and descriptive. Though Mazzeno deliberately, because of space limitations, eschews discussion of "the subtlety of argumentation that makes these studies of value," more vivid language might better entice students to take a few tentative steps into the gaudy, exciting world of the Victorian novel. Secondary and lower-division undergraduate students only. -A. F. Dalbey, College of Marin
