CHOICE Review

In recent years, rapid change and intensified competition have forced progressive managers to structure procedures for monitoring developments in the environment that could affect their organizations. Stoffels (Marquette Univ.) provides a rationale and guide for creating such a structure. The author's treatment is both comprehensive and practical, enabling a reader to apply the procedures given to a specific firm. The text is supported by numerous and pertinent figures, tables, and examples. An extensive list of information sources is appended, as well as a large bibliography for further reference. Locating specific information is aided by lists of tables and charts, a table of contents, and index. There has been a need for a book-length treatment of environmental scanning that translates the wealth of published academic insights into specific methods and techniques. Appropriate for both students of management and practicing managers. Upper-division undergraduate through practitioner. W. C. Struning; Seton Hall University
