School Library Journal Review

Gr 7-12-- The pros and cons of waging ``war on drugs,'' legalizing street drugs, and U. S. campaigns for stopping international trafficking are addressed in this sourcebook of short articles. Expanding on the popular ``Opposing Viewpoints'' series, Drug Trafficking is tailor-made for students preparing speeches or writing papers on this pressing and pervasive social problem. The book also contains articles dealing with the corrupting effects of drug trafficking on our society--the connection to organized crime, the destructive influence on banks and the entire American economic system, the compromising of foreign policy, and the life-threatening impact is has had on America's ethnic and racial minorities. The short essays come from politicians, academicians, and journalists, and represent a wide variety of opinions and diverse backgrounds. A short bibliography and a directory of organizations to contact for more information follow the main body of text. Although some of the essays cover similar ground, sometimes repeating arguments, this volume is a valuable collection of source material for students researching this important subject. --Jack Forman, Mesa College Library, San Diego (c) Copyright 2010.
