Publishers Weekly Review

Women's liberation, according to this relentelessly upbeat manifesto, has become an unstoppable movement, and women, though not yet fully liberated, are building a new social order. The authors, who previously collaborated on Megatrends and Megatrends 2000, contend that women in business are creating a new anti-authoritarian leadership style that empowers employees. They prediet an upsurge of women in politics and forecast that in the 1990s women will break through to top corporate posts and no longer follow clothing fashions. They envisage women's medical issues rising to the top of the nation's health-care agenda and claim that women are revolutionizing organized religion by reintegrating female values. Sprinkled with tidbits of useful information and highlighting entrepreneurial and professional areas where women may venture in the '90s, this often superficial survey is likely to be a bestseller. 300,000first printing;first serial to Glamour; BOMC and QPB alternates; Fortune Book Clubfeatured alternate; author tour. Booklist Review

Futurist females won't be the only readers requesting this latest glimpse of the years ahead from the best-selling trend-spotter team. Women's liberation--true equality between men and women--has already achieved critical mass, they argue, and is a kind of super-megatrend: a change whose consequences are themselves megatrends. Aburdene and Naisbitt scan what women have accomplished so far and what comes next in politics, sports, work, religion, medicine, fashion, the family, social activism, and the "New World Order"; they predict a female U.S. president by 2008, a move from military-style business leadership to an empowerment model pioneering businesswomen have demonstrated, and large numbers of "collaborative couples" who choose to develop businesses together. Despite countervailing forces, Aburdene and Naisbitt declare, women are "building a new reality, a new social order or paradigm that will eventually replace the old order based on the domination of the male sex, its values and power." As in previous volumes, the Aburdene-Naisbitt collaboration is more of a clipping service than a think tank, but most readers will pick up useful factoids and solid food for thought here.
